Evaluation

Aims & Objectives & Evaluation

  • To improve my understanding of video editing
    • Watch After Effects videos for more information
    • Watch Photoshop videos for more information

Evaluation:
I made the video using most of the effects I saw on the photoshop and after effects videos and I fully understand how to edit and develop on photoshop and after effects.
Strengths: My strengths are adding effects and learning more things for the title sequences and doing it smoothly.
Weaknesses: I forget things really easily so every time I edit I have to re-watch the photoshop and after effects videos so I can have a brief explanation on what to do again.

Improve: If I could do this again and improve on it I would watch more videos to get a better understanding and ask teachers for help or friends.
  • To be appealing to the audience
    • To use After Effects to add special effects needed
    • Bright Colours for text
    • Adding some flashing effects in the beginning
    • Fading Transitions

Evaluation:
After some feedback everyone said my titles sequence was very cool and well edited so I think this really appealed to the audience and it went well.
Strengths: My strengths are making lots of flashing colours and using bold fonts for the title sequence and using the right choice of sound for the title sequence. I mostly used after effects instead of photoshop because it had more effects and in my opinion it was easier.
Weaknesses: In the end, there was another title sequence and I thought it was very slow so I think I should have made it a bit quicker. I don't think the fading transition would look good with my title sequence so I didn't add it.

Improve: Before sending it to the group, I think I should have asked other people for some feedback so I knew how to improve it to make it perfect.

  • To be high quality
    • Music has to match the video
    • Right timing for the transitions and the text appearing
    • Good quality images - not copyrighted

Evaluation:
The music and images took a really long time to find and it was hard to get non copyrighted images. It also took a long time to match the music and titles together since I had to find the beat and every time there was a hard beat I had to change the text.
Strengths: The transitions were clear and the fonts were easy to read. The music matched the video and ended at the same time, which means the timing was good. There was good pictures and nice videos in the title sequence.
Improve: Like the one before I think I should have gotten feedback first before sending it to my group members so I could be high quality and perfect.

  • To be confident in using after effects and photoshop
    • Practice
    • Watching Videos
    • Trial and Error - Effects

Evaluation:
I didn't really have that much time to practice on using after effects and photoshop since it takes a really long time and I'm usually busy. But, I did watch videos so I got a brief idea on how to do the editing and effects on the title sequence. When I had time to do the title sequence, I had lots of trial and errors with the effects because I wanted it to match and look good so I had to keep switching different effects to find the right one.
Strengths: When I finally found the right effect, it really made the text and video stand out. I really liked how the title sequence turned out.

Improve: Make time to practice
  • Make the title sequence original
    • Unique Effects
    • Unexpected fonts
    • Old School Music

Evaluation:
Since it had to be something very unique and original it took me a long time to find nice bright fonts and dark backgrounds for the video. I thought having a 2D text made the titles really boring so I made it into a 3D text. In the beginning I was going to do some animation with the text but it kept getting messed up and I couldn't fix it and since I was running out of time I eventually gave up.
Strengths: I really liked the fonts used and the music matched the title sequence. - Eye Catching
Weaknesses: Lots of mistakes and problems - Giving up.

Improve: I shouldn't have gave up because if I didn't the title sequence would have been very original and unique.

Title Sequence and Logo + Brief Explanation of how I did the Logo and Title Sequence

This is the opening for the title sequence.

Since my theme was to making something old school in the beginning, I decided to add a old TV effect and some flashing transition.

This is our intro.

For the titles sequence, I wanted to make something upbeat and old school so I used the intros of old school games and added a 3D text showing the roles.

LOGO

I had to make the logo for the group since our Program Ident Designer used a logo designer off the internet and also he didn't follow our drawing for the logo.

How it was made - Layers

First I used the 3D text from photoshop and typed it like this

     L
     E
     A
     R
AMING
     I
     N
     G

Then I had a separate text layer just for the letter G in the start of 'Gaming', so I can enlarge it and try to make the text look like the number '4', I added a thin stroke line and an outer glow on both text to make it stand out more and changed the based light for the text. Then I used the pen tool to surround the text and make the number '4' shape. I thought about how this logo could relate to gaming and the only thing I came up with is pac man so I added dots eg. '..........' all around the pen outline and left a small gap on the top to add a image of pac man to make it look like its eating the pac-dots.

Tutorial Work

3D Text Animation in Photoshop

I chose the 3D text animation tutorial because I think that this can really help me for my title sequence. I think I might be doing this kind of text for the title sequence.

Research for my Title Sequence

I used the website http://www.watchthetitles.com/tags/item/Documentary  to research on animated title sequences, and I found at least 4 good examples which are:

I like this title sequence because I really like the font used in it and the transition used in it gives a mysterious vibe. The music matches the whole video and it really catches my attention. This gives me a good idea for our original title sequence.

The transition in this video is really cool and I feel that the effects used are really 'unique' and it's something I haven't seen before. I might use some of the effects used for our title sequence.

This video is really mysterious and calm at the same time. The music really matches the videos, and it gives me a brief explanation on how to use the music and match the video.

I like the music in this video and the text fading in and out really brings all the pictures, music and images together.

Animating Layers in Photoshop

Edited Video

Layers

Timeline

In this task I had to expand the layers in the timeline and play the animation, I tried to see how the animation options have been set up to create the effect I see. I edited and experimented with this file by dragging the existing keyframes, creating new ones or by changing the appropriate settings so that I create my own animated sequence. I looked at changing the effect on the image behind, by animating another Adjustment Layer.
